PMC Approves Rs 30 Crore for Lohegaon Airport Road and Rs 73 Crore Wakdewadi Flyover in One Big Meeting

17 Jul 2026

PMC standing committee on Thursday approved Rs 30 crore to acquire approximately 14600 square metres of land for a new 30 metre wide road improving connectivity to Lohegaon airport beyond 509 Chowk. The project has gained urgency as the airport undergoes expansion with the existing 12 metre access road expected to be affected by new airport facilities necessitating an alternative route to manage rising traffic. PMC has already approved the road alignment and the sanctioned funds will be used to compensate landowners. In a second major decision the committee approved a Rs 73 crore flyover at Wakdewadi subway that will begin near Sakhar Sankul pass over railway tracks and connect to the old Mumbai Pune highway with funding spread over two financial years and a technical study agency already appointed.

The committee also cleared an API based digital system for building permissions to be piloted in Kothrud and Baner under an MoU signed with the state Settlement Commissioner and Director of Land Records. The system is expected to streamline and speed up the issuance of certificates and approvals making the building permission process faster and more transparent for citizens. Standing committee chairperson said PMC was strengthening airport connectivity in line with the airport's expansion while corporators noted the Wakdewadi flyover had been long demanded as the existing subway was simply inadequate for growing traffic volumes on this critical rail crossing corridor connecting the old Mumbai Pune highway to central Pune.
