PMC Transfers Katraj Parking Plot Worth Rs 1.67 Crore to Maha Metro for Underground Metro Station Entry
Pune Municipal Corporation PMC has initiated the process of transferring 572.46 square metres of land in Katraj valued at approximately Rs 1.67 crore to Maharashtra Metro Railway Corporation Maha Metro for the proposed Katraj metro station entry exit structure on the Swargate to Katraj underground metro extension. The plot located at survey number 136 old and 57 new in Katraj near the PMPML bus stand is currently used as a temporary public parking facility and has been valued at Rs 28320 per square metre. Rather than a direct cash payment the amount will be adjusted against PMC's equity contribution to the metro project following a state government directive issued last year that replaced the earlier practice of leasing civic land with permanent transfer after recovering market value. The proposal will be reviewed by the city improvement committee before going to the standing committee and general body for final approval.
PMC has laid down strict conditions to protect existing public amenities before the land is formally transferred. The current parking facility must continue to be available to citizens without disruption with Maha Metro required to provide parking on at least the ground or first floor of the proposed metro structure. Independent entry and exit points for the parking area must be maintained from the main road to avoid traffic congestion. If metro station construction affects the existing PMPML bus stops or bus bays Maha Metro will be required to create alternative bus bays and ensure uninterrupted public transport operations ensuring that the underground metro expansion does not come at the cost of the surface level civic amenities that thousands of Katraj residents and commuters currently depend on every day.
