PMC to Lead Major Infrastructure Push as PMRDA Approves 4,628 Crore Budget

05 May 2026

The Chief Minister has officially approved a ₹4,628.85 crore budget for the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) for the 2026-27 fiscal year, marking a massive push for regional infrastructure. In a high-level meeting at Sahyadri Guest House on Monday, the CM issued a strict six-month deadline for the PMRDA to finalize the pending structural development plan for regional villages. A significant outcome of the meeting was the directive to form a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) for the ambitious Katraj-Yerawada twin tunnels project, with the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) set to take the lead in its execution.

The budget allocates a staggering ₹2,918.81 crore specifically for engineering and infrastructure, covering critical projects such as the Ring Road, Metro extensions, the Lonavala skywalk, and the rejuvenation of the Mula-Mutha and Pavana-Indrayani rivers. Furthermore, the PMC is likely to be designated as the planning authority for five major Town Planning (TP) schemes, including the recently revived Maan-Mhalunge model scheme. To expedite public services, the Metropolitan Commissioner has been granted delegated powers for land disposal, inheritance entries, and NOCs, aimed at reducing bureaucratic delays for residents across the 23 merged villages.
