The long-awaited Mumbai–Pune Missing Link project is in its final stage, with construction almost complete and just one deck section pending. Once opened, the 13.3-km stretch will bypass the accident-prone ghat section between Lonavala and Khandala on the Mumbai–Pune Expressway. The new alignment is expected to shorten the distance by nearly six kilometres and reduce travel time by 25 to 30 minutes, offering safer and smoother journeys for daily commuters.
Authorities have clarified that there will be no sudden toll hike on the new stretch. Instead, the toll collection period has been extended till 2045, with revisions scheduled every five years. While final safety inspections are underway, leaders like Milind Narvekar have urged caution due to fog, heavy rain, and strong winds in the Bor Ghat region. Once operational, the missing link is expected to significantly ease congestion, reduce accident risks, and improve travel efficiency on one of Maharashtra’s busiest corridors.
