The ambitious ₹4,200 crore Talegaon–Chakan–Shikrapur highway project has finally entered the implementation stage, five months after receiving approval from the state cabinet. Tenders have been floated, and once the executing agency is finalised, land acquisition of 56 hectares across Maval and Khed talukas will begin, expected to take six months. Construction of the 53.2 km corridor is projected to take four years, with the project likely to be ready only by 2030.
Designed to decongest traffic and boost industrial connectivity, the corridor will feature a four-lane elevated and parallel at-grade road from Talegaon to Chakan, and a six-lane stretch from Chakan to Shikrapur. Linking NH-48 (Mumbai–Pune) and NH-753 (Pune–Sambhajinagar), the upgraded highway will ease freight movement, reduce congestion in the Talegaon–Chakan–Shikrapur industrial belt, and provide smoother access to the Pune–Mumbai Expressway. The project will operate under a 30-year build-operate-transfer (BOT) model, with the developer funding, maintaining, and collecting tolls.
