Mundhwa–Manjari Stretch Becomes Symbol of Pune’s Worst Traffic Jams

01 Dec 2025

Pune traffic congestion has become a major concern for daily commuters as the TomTom Traffic Survey 2024 lists Pune as the fourth most congested city in the world and the third most congested city in India. The data highlights how traffic on the Mundhwa Manjari road, Kharadi bypass, and other key junctions has turned routine travel into a difficult experience for thousands of people. Many residents say their Pune traffic travel time often doubles due to poor road conditions, potholes, missing links, and rising construction activity.

Daily Pune commuters also report that the Mundhwa Manjari stretch sometimes takes more than one and a half hours to cover just six kilometres. This is now affecting job decisions, shift timings, and even residential choices, as people try to escape peak hour Pune traffic jams. The situation reflects larger issues like inadequate infrastructure, lack of enforcement, stalled parallel roads, and incomplete land acquisition. Real time data from the TomTom survey also recorded an evening congestion level of 35 percent and an average speed of just twenty kilometres per hour on major Pune roads.
