The Maharashtra state government has officially announced the establishment of a new IT park in Purandar taluka, located just 3-4 km from the site of the proposed greenfield international airport. Industries Minister Uday Samant confirmed in the legislative assembly that the project will utilize approximately 1,500 acres of government-owned land in Dive, Chambali, and Kodit villages. Since the land already belongs to the revenue department, the state expects to bypass the traditional funding requirements and delays associated with private land acquisition. A formal transfer request was submitted on February 27, 2026, and the process is expected to be finalized following the next cabinet meeting, allowing the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) to begin infrastructure development.
The project, which has been in feasibility discussions since 2024, is strategically designed to alleviate the saturation and traffic bottlenecks currently plaguing the Hinjewadi IT Park. Purandar MLA Vijay Shivtare, who championed the proposal, noted that the park's proximity to the future airport makes it a prime alternative for global firms looking to expand within the district. IT experts and industry forums have welcomed the move but cautioned the government to prioritize world-class civic amenities and "Industry 4.0" infrastructure to ensure the mistakes of older IT hubs are not repeated. With a potential to generate nearly one lakh jobs, the Purandar IT Park is envisioned as a cornerstone of the state’s goal to become a global leader in AI and data center infrastructure by 2029
