Katraj-Kondhwa Road Widening Misses June 2026 Target and Now PMC Sets Yet Another Deadline of March 2027
Pune Municipal Corporation PMC has set yet another deadline of March 2027 for completing the long delayed Katraj Kondhwa Road widening project after failing to meet the June 2026 target set by the municipal commissioner with delays in land acquisition continuing to push the project further behind schedule. The project conceived as an 84 metre wide road and later revised to 50 metres had its foundation stone laid in 2017 but less than half the work was completed over the following eight years. The municipal commissioner visited the stretch on Wednesday and reviewed progress posting on X that land acquisition and utility shifting issues pending for 12 years have now been resolved and thanked the Chief Minister for ensuring funds for land acquisition. At the time of the June deadline PMC had acquired around 100 of the 109 properties required and had warned remaining owners of police assisted possession if they failed to cooperate.
The road is a crucial link between the Pune Satara and Pune Solapur highways serving over two lakh vehicles daily and its widening is expected to provide significant relief to commuters travelling between Katraj Kondhwa Undri and surrounding areas. Despite intensified demolition and anti encroachment drives launched in June to clear obstructions along the corridor, construction remains incomplete on several stretches. Residents and commuters have expressed deep frustration over repeated deadline changes having endured years of congestion, potholes, waterlogging and dust along this busy corridor. PMC officials said resolving remaining acquisition issues will allow simultaneous construction progress across the acquired stretches making March 2027 a significant credibility test for the civic administration after nearly a decade of broken timelines on this project.
