Flyover at Gangadham Chowk Vishrantwadi by December and Shastrinagar in Four Months as PMC Chief Sets Three Deadlines

14 Aug 2026

Pune Municipal Corporation PMC has finalised plans for a flyover and a connecting road link in the Gangadham Chowk to Market Yard to Aai Mata Mandir Chowk corridor to address long standing traffic congestion and accident risks in the area. The PMC chief conducted a site visit on Wednesday directing officials to prepare a roadmap for early commencement of the flyover and to engage with landowners to resolve pending land acquisition issues for the connecting road link. Standing committee chairperson said the administration should complete the flyover within two years and prepare a detailed execution schedule accordingly with final designs for both projects expected to be ready soon. PMC had also examined the possibility of a grade separator at Gangadham Chowk but officials said the proposal is unviable due to two nullahs passing through the area complicating design and execution. Once complete the flyover and link road will reduce traffic snarls for commuters travelling toward Kondhwa Bibvewadi and Market Yard.

In separate infrastructure decisions, the PMC chief directed the special projects department to complete the ongoing flyover and grade separator project at Vishrantwadi Chowk by December to improve connectivity to Lohegaon Airport. He also inspected the ongoing grade separator project at Shastrinagar Chowk which is expected to be completed within the next four months. The three simultaneous deadline driven site visits by PMC chief on Wednesday signal a more hands on approach to fast tracking key flyover and grade separator projects that have long been pending across the city. Commuters in affected areas however urged PMC to ensure proper traffic diversion and vehicle management plans during construction phases to prevent the execution work itself from adding to existing congestion on already stressed corridors.
