New Residential Projects Coming Up in Hinjewadi Villages, But No Roads, No Water, No Electricity to Support Them
Residents and IT professionals at Hinjewadi IT Park confronted Deputy Chief Minister at an open forum held at Council Hall on Thursday, demanding time-bound implementation of infrastructure projects that have been pending for over a decade. One resident said he has been writing emails to various authorities about bad roads, heavy traffic and inadequate infrastructure since 2013 with none of the issues addressed, while another resident pointed out that even the late Deputy Chief Minister had taken the administration to task over the same pending issues in 2025 without any long-term solutions being implemented. Major pain points highlighted include access roads at Bhumkar Chowk, Lakshmi Chowk and the Wakad flyover while farmers from Hinjewadi and Maan demanded urgent land acquisition for three critical roads, a section from Baner to Hinjewadi via Maan, a flyover over Lakshmi Chowk and an alternative road from Phase 1 to Phase 2. Residents also flagged that large residential projects are coming up in surrounding villages with no roads, water supply or electricity to support rapid urbanisation.
A central frustration expressed by residents was the ongoing buck-passing between PMRDA, PWD and MIDC on the question of which agency should acquire land for the critical road projects, leading to indefinite delays. DCM acknowledged that Hinjewadi's infrastructure problems have been pending for long, promised to visit the area to examine ground realities, asked residents to reconsider their protest and said she would take up the 2 TMC water supply from Mulshi dam for cabinet approval. Despite the open forum and representations from multiple resident groups, no concrete decision was made on any of the key issues during the meeting. District collector said a task force similar to Chakan's has been constituted and will meet every Friday for time-bound plans while PMRDA commissioner outlined a Rs 420 crore plan for footpaths and Metro last-mile connectivity, leaving residents wondering if this meeting would go the way of the dozens before it.
