Sadhu Vaswani Bridge to Miss Yet Another Deadline as Koregaon Park Commuters Wait Until December 2026
Commuters in Koregaon Park VVIP Circuit House Bund Garden and Wadia College areas will have to wait five more months as the new Sadhu Vaswani bridge is unlikely to be completed before December 2026. PMC civic chief inspected the bridge work on Tuesday and directed officials to complete all pending work by December end announcing monthly progress reviews to maintain construction momentum. The new four lane bridge with footpaths on both sides is replacing the old Sadhu Vaswani bridge which a team of experts had recommended for demolition after declaring it unfit to handle heavy vehicles. Work has been significantly hampered by the technical challenge of shifting a water pipeline that currently crosses the railway tracks from above a complex operation requiring coordination across multiple departments and agencies.
During Tuesday's site visit the civic chief reviewed the technical complexity of the project and called for coordinated departmental efforts to ensure the December deadline is met without further slippage. The bridge serves as a critical crossing point for thousands of daily commuters travelling through some of Pune's most densely trafficked and commercially active neighbourhoods including Koregaon Park and Bund Garden. The pipeline relocation over the railway tracks has emerged as the single biggest bottleneck delaying what should have been a straightforward bridge replacement project. With the December 2026 deadline now firmly set and monthly reviews ordered commuters and residents of the affected areas are hoping this will finally be the last extension before the long awaited four lane crossing opens for public use.
