Residents around Hinjawadi IT Park have demanded an independent coordination committee under the PMC commissioner to resolve the long-pending repair of a 3.5 km stretch on Mahalunge-Nande road after receiving no actionable assurance from PMC for over two months despite raising the issue in August. In a September 29 letter PMC informed the Mahalunge Residents' Association that work cannot begin due to the model code of conduct for the Pune graduates and teachers constituency election, which residents found contradictory since the PMC commissioner had himself stated in September that development work in the city would not be affected by the election. Further frustrating residents, PMC's letter only mentioned a 500-metre section rather than the full 3.5 km stretch demanded by the association. The road serves as the primary approach for 8,000 families across completed residential projects in Maan and Mahalunge and the issue involves multiple departments making coordination critical.
The human cost of the road's condition has already been devastating. In August an 11-year-old boy travelling with his father on a two-wheeler died after a truck ran over him on this stretch, triggering massive public outrage and urgent demands for repairs. Residents said crater-sized potholes pose constant danger especially for two-wheelers, the road has no uniformity in width with bottlenecks near schools and students, parents and senior citizens are forced to walk between moving vehicles during peak hours creating a daily safety crisis. The Mahalunge Residents' Association is seeking clarity on current work status, required approvals, fund availability and actual on-site progress saying patchwork alone is not a solution for what residents describe as one of the most dangerous road stretches near Hinjawadi's rapidly growing residential belt.
