Dam is Full, Taps Are Dry - Wakad Resident Orders Four Tankers Daily as PCMC Blames New Society NOCs
Civic officials met housing society representatives on Wednesday to address growing complaints of low water pressure and inadequate supply in Wakad, Pimple Saudagar, Tathawade, Thergaon and Punawale despite Pavana dam being completely full, with residents questioning why they are forced to rely on private water tankers even during monsoon when the city's primary reservoir is at maximum capacity.
President of Pimpri Chinchwad Cooperative Housing Societies Federation submitted a formal list of 36 affected housing societies to PCMC's water supply department during the meeting. Officials assured visits to all 36 societies within a week with the federation warning that a protest will follow if the visits do not happen. The federation president described the shortage as appearing artificial given that the city's dams are overflowing.
PCMC joint city engineer claimed most complaining societies are relatively new and were built with developer NOCs stating builders would manage water supply until municipal lines reached premises. He said water supply in other parts of the city is normal and the problem appears restricted to specific areas.
However the federation president directly disputed this explanation, pointing out that his own society on Datta Mandir Road in Wakad built in 2011 is facing acute shortage and ordering four private tankers every day because municipal supply is completely inadequate.
For residents paying municipal taxes while spending on private tankers during a monsoon when Pavana dam is full, the situation is not just an inconvenience. It is a fundamental failure of PCMC's water distribution planning that demands urgent and transparent answers.
