PMC Acquires Last 200m of Baner-Pashan Link Road After 15 Years, Rs 68 Crore Paid to Finally End the Wait
PMC has completed land acquisition for the long-pending missing link stretch of the Baner-Pashan Link Road, paying approximately Rs 68 crore with physical possession of the land initiated on Monday marking the end of a 15-year land acquisition deadlock that had stalled the 36-metre-wide Development Plan road. Only around 200 metres of the 1.2 km road had remained unacquired, keeping the critical west Pune connector incomplete for over a decade and a half. The head of PMC's land acquisition department confirmed that the final award has been declared and that the acquired land will be used both to complete the pending roadwork and to widen a narrow road nearby. The long-delayed completion of this stretch near Jayshree Stores and Kumar Sahavas society is expected to bring significant relief to commuters in Baner, Pashan and surrounding west Pune areas.
Residents who have been following up on the project for years welcomed the announcement but immediately stressed that land acquisition completion is only the first step and that ground construction must begin and be completed at the earliest without any further delay. President of the Baner-Pashan Link Road Citizens Group said citizens should be kept in confidence about road construction timelines and progress. For a city that has watched the Baner-Pashan missing link appear on PMC's priority lists year after year without meaningful progress, the Rs 68 crore land acquisition is significant news but residents are clear that the only metric that matters now is when construction actually starts and how quickly the 200-metre missing stretch finally gets built, widened and opened to the thousands of daily commuters who have been waiting 15 years for this road.
